on the drive to the landfill saw a long-tailed weasel dart across the road. it was lovely. i’d never seen one in broad daylight. the very few times i’d come upon one at night it was always in grass. today’s weasel was so very long and red. held its tail out stiff behind it. sadly no basilisks in sight.

shooting stars are up. just a few. pale and fragrant. there’s a clearing in the pines where white dodecatheon bloom. i still prefer the lilac-colored ones. but they’re all lovely.

upon returning home i heard the screech of a red-tailed hawk. looked up to see one circling high over the house. above it was a white-tailed kite in the mood to harry.

and now for more moomin.

i go.
